APCO Strategic Governance Initiative Holds
Town Hall Meetings in Advance of Quorum Vote

Ohio Chapter leaders and membership:

As was brought to your attention at the May Chapter meeting, APCO Intl is currently working on a Strategic Governance Initiative. The SGI task force is comprised of Past President Steve Proctor and Life Members Steve Souder and Michael Mangini. There are also 4 Executive Council members serving as advisors, 1 from each APCO region. The proposed governance changes revolve around providing a more streamlined set of BYLAWS for the Association that will replace a rather large and cumbersome Constitution & Bylaws; and the creation of a new governing structure. The Board of Officers would become the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors with serving members becoming the President, 1st VP, 2nd VP and Immediate Past President (non-voting for Ex Committee). There would be a Board of Directors consisting of the Executive Committee and 8 Executive Council members (2 per region) plus one Commercial member representative.  The other major proposed change is for! APCO Intl to roll the Institute and AFC and Heritage Foundation into the parent corporation and transition APCO to a 501C3 organization.

All of the legal and accounting consultants have studied all of these proposals and highly recommend action in the direction proposed. As one of the 4 EC Advisors to the SGI, I can assure you that my thoughts on these proposals are that while they reflect a lot of change, all are in the best interest in the future of a healthier, more responsive Association and help insure the Association's future sustainability and growth so that it can best serve the membership.

Throughout the past few months the original proposals of the SGI task force have been vetted and modified and clarified and discussed and modified again based on input and concerns expressed during conference calls with Executive Council, Past Presidents, Commercial Advisory Committee, and Chapter Officers. Within the next few weeks leading up to the Annual Conference there will be several Town Hall type conference calls open to any member interested in participating.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email me.
