Below is a statement from APCO International First Vice President and Westerville Communications Manager Holly Wayt:
Yesterday (February 10, 2018), the Westerville Police Department and the entire Westerville Community suffered an immense loss.
We are mourning the line of duty deaths of Officer Anthony Morelli and Officer Eric Joering. They were killed responding to a 9-1-1 hang up call stemming from a domestic situation. The loss of these two officers is devastating to the entire Westerville community.
The staff members of the Westerville Communications Center are still processing what has happened. The next days and weeks will be difficult, but the outpouring of support from our neighboring communications centers and our APCO International family has been overwhelming. Your support is helping sustain us during this tragedy.
I wish I could personally answer every one of your calls, texts and e-mails so I could thank you for your incredible support. I want you to know how much everyone at Westerville appreciates our public safety family and everything you have done, and will continue to do for us in the days and weeks to come. It comforts us greatly to know we are in your thoughts and prayers.
Until I can talk with each of you to say it in person, THANK YOU.
