TERT is a joint initiative between NENA and APCO to create a nationwide network of public-safety communications professionals that can respond to support local communications centers in times of disaster. The goal of a TERT team is to organize local public-safety agencies to be ready to systematically deploy trained, recognized teams of telecommunicators to assist another agency that has suffered by a natural disaster or terrorist event. Using the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), telecommunicators can be resource typed and deployed as part of any interstate disaster response. Ohio is in the early stages of forming a statwide TERT team. The Ohio chapters of NENA and APCO have joined forces in this effort.
