To our Members,
On behalf of your Ohio APCO Executive Committee, I would like to take a moment to address concerns brought forward by members of our association related to vaccines for COVID‐19. Although all of us are now eligible to be vaccinated under the recently revised Governor’s Executive Order, we believe it necessary to speak on this issue.
Ohio APCO has always advocated for its members and will continue to do so. The fact that the allocation of vaccines did not fully consider telecommunicators when law enforcement was approved was of great concern to us. Ohio APCO continued to actively advocate for the recognition our members deserve. We would be remiss if we didn’t
acknowledge that our public safety partners at the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP), the Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association (BSSA) and others worked with us to lobby for telecommunicators to be included in the early distribution. Unfortunately, the Ohio Department of Health and the Governor did not agree.
Rest assured, your concerns were heard and we will continue working to include telecommunicators in every conversation we have at both the local and the state level. It was good to know that we have other associations willing to stand beside us as we continue to advocate for not just our membership, but for our profession and all of the telecommunicators that ensure the safety, security and service for communities across Ohio.
Sincerely,
Lydia G. Frey
Ohio APCO President
